6. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Please find the Submission Requirements outlined below (hereinafter, referred to collectively as the “Requirements”).

A. CONTEST THEME: BECOME A TEAM USA OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC ANALYST WITH GEMINI.

The Team USA x Google Cloud Hackathon challenges participants to define and solve a fan-centric problem centered on Team USA. The core goal is to use Google Gemini models and Google Cloud to turn publicly available sports data and media into compelling, shareable fan engagement tools, following the principle of Vibe Coding.

Your Project must answer a creative, fan-centric question (outlined below) and generate a compelling outcome (e.g., data visualization, web app, or  conversational app).

Olympic and Paralympic Parity: In creating your project and any associated marketing or demo materials, participants must ensure that Paralympic inclusion and representation are strong throughout (in terms of both data usage and visual storytelling).

B. CHOOSE A CHALLENGE. Create a NEW solution that addresses one of the following challenges provided by Team USA (each a "Project") using public data sources, at least one Gemini model, and Google Cloud products:

  • Challenge 1: The Team USA Performance Parity Report

    • Build a dashboard or app that treats Olympic and Paralympic team data with equal prominence. Highlight shared milestones or hometown support systems.

    • The Data: Historical athlete data and team qualification data, ensuring Olympic and Paralympic parity.

    • The Vibe: Showcase the collective power of Team USA across all disciplines.

  • Challenge 2: The Hometown Success Engine

    • Build a tool that identifies "Hubs" by correlating geography with the sports Team USA is present in. Focus on the number of Olympians/Paralympians from hometowns instead of the number of medalists to be inclusive of all athletes. Avoid implying that geography guarantees results; use conditional phrasing like "could help find".

    • The Data: General number of Olympians/Paralympians from hometown regions and public geographical/climate data.

    • The Vibe: A tool showing how the American landscape fosters Team USA excellence.

  • Challenge 3: The Road to LA28 Games Bracket

    • The Data: Team USA World Championship counts and recent news articles.

    • The Challenge: Build a "National Momentum" generator for sports featuring at the LA28 Games. Use Gemini to analyze growth and upward trajectory for Team USA sports.

    • The Vibe: A prediction engine ranking sports by growth and preparation milestones leading to the LA28 Games.

  • Challenge 4: The Athlete Archetype Agent

    • Create an analytics tool that clusters 120 years of historical data into "Athlete Archetypes," such as "Powerhouse" for throwers or "Aerobic" for endurance. Build a fan-facing agent where users input physical traits (e.g. height, weight) to find their body type's historical alignment with Team USA sports. Where applicable, the agent should explain Paralympic classifications with the same analytical depth as Olympic ones. Ensure all archetypes and insights are presented using conditional phrasing like "could lead to" rather than guaranteeing specific performance results.

    • The Data: A dataset of US-only data spanning 120 years, including physical traits, results, and regional hometown data.

    • The Vibe: A "Digital Mirror" that helps fans see themselves in the collective journey of Team USA through data-driven storytelling, without identifying specific private individuals.

  • Challenge 5: Choose Your Own Challenge

    • The Challenge: Select your own fan-centric question and create your own challenge! The challenge must follow all data use restrictions, ensure Olympic and Paralympic parity, focus on AI's analytical capabilities (insights, comparisons, or pattern tracking) rather than promising better results or performance, avoid implying that performance guarantees results (use conditional phrasing like "could help find), and follow all submission requirements below.

C. ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS OF SUBMISSION.

  • Project Team: You may submit your Project as an individual, a team of eligible individuals, or on behalf of an eligible organization. By entering a Submission on behalf of a Team or Organization you represent and warrant that you are the Representative authorized to act on behalf of your Team or Organization.

  • Functionality: The Project must be built primarily on Google Cloud technologies and services, and to the extent you use any generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools, such GAI tools must be Google Cloud services.  The Project must be capable of being successfully installed and run consistently on the platform for which it is intended as described below,  and must function as depicted in the video and/or expressed in the text description that you submit with the Project.

  • Limitation on Artificial Intelligence Technologies: All artificial intelligence tools  used in connection with the Project or this Contest must be Google Cloud services, which are detailed at https://cloud.google.com/terms/services, such as Gemini models via Vertex AI, analytics services from Google Cloud, Cloud Functions, and relevant APIs. An Entrant may submit a Submission that includes the use of open source software or hardware, provided the Entrant complies with applicable open source licenses and, as part of the Submission, creates software that enhances and builds upon the features and functionality included in the underlying open source product. By entering the Contest, you represent, warrant, and agree that your Submission meets these requirements.

8. JUDGING

On or about the period between May 12, 2026 to June 10, 2026, (“Judging Period”) Eligible submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges selected by the Sponsor (the “Judges”). Judges may be employees of the sponsor or third parties, may or may not be listed individually on the Hackathon Website, and may change before or during the Judging Period. Judging may take place in one or more rounds with one or more panels of Judges, at the discretion of the Sponsor.

The Submissions will be evaluated by the Judges in the following Stages:

Stage One: The first stage will determine via pass/fail whether the Submission meets a baseline level of viability in that the Submission includes all Submission requirements, reasonably addresses a Challenge, and reasonably applies the requirements.

Stage Two: Weighted Scoring (Determines Grand Prize, 5 Core Challenge Winners, and 4 Honorable Mention Winners)

All Submissions that pass Stage One will be evaluated based on the following weighted criteria to determine the overall score for (3) core Judging Criteria and according to the sole and absolute discretion of the Judges.

  1. Impact (40%)
Does the application solve a fan-centric question for Team USA? Is the vision inspiring and does the solution have a tangible potential for positive change? Does it demonstrate strong Paralympic representation?

  2. Technical Depth & Execution (30%)
Does the application work? How effectively does it utilize Gemini’s advanced capabilities (multimodality, reasoning, context)? How well is it implemented on Google Cloud? Is the technology real, functional, well-engineered, and not just faked for the demo? Did you use Gemini and Google Cloud in new ways?

  3. Presentation Quality (30%)
How exciting, engaging, and well-produced is the video? Does it tell a powerful story that captures the viewer's imagination? Does it clearly and effectively demonstrate the product in action, showcasing a great user experience, the problem it solves for Team USA, and how it was built using Gemini and Google Cloud? Does it have viral potential? Does it tell a powerful story while respecting all content restrictions?

The highest-scoring Submission for each Challenge will be selected as the potential winner(s). The highest-scoring Submission across all categories will win the Grand Prize. Ties will be broken by comparing scores on each criterion in the order listed, and if a tie remains, judges will vote. If a potential winner is disqualified, the Submission with the next highest score will become the potential winner. Determinations of judges are final and binding.
